On Your Way to Mexico?

On your way to Mexico, which is only 8 miles away from the Coronado, stop and have a bite to eat at the Yuma Landing Bar & Grill, one of the Yuma Restaurants with a real history. Be sure not to miss any of the pictures that document Yuma as it was back in the “good old day!” In 1911 Robert Fowler landed the first airplane on Arizona’s soil, making the Yuma Landing a historic site!  Be sure to ask  about the catering possibility. They offer some of the best Chicken Wings in Yuma, with numerous sauces.

Another good point of interest is the Yuma Territorial Prison State Park.  Some of the most dangerous murderers, thieves, and outlaws lived within the walls of the prison which still stands. The wide variety of characters imprisoned here were not always native to Yuma, so the stories and artifacts are a must to see! The “Prison” is located only 6 blocks from the Best Western Coronado.

On the north side of the motel, along the Colorado River, is the Yuma Crossing Stat Park. Yuma’s purpose in Civil War was o provide a supply stop for all the soldiers. Supplies ranging from guns to socks. Reopening September 27, 1997, completely restored, the Crossing State Park will be an interesting monument to add to the charm of Yuma.
